Description

We are recruiting a Support Worker to work within a prison based Drug and Alcohol Service, supporting psychosocial patients with complex needs including substance misuse, mental health and trauma histories. This is a frontline role within a secure environment, delivering structured, recovery focused interventions while contributing to the smooth running of the wider service.

This role requires resilience, strong interpersonal skills and the ability to balance direct service user work with administrative responsibilities.

The Role

You will work closely with Recovery Coordinators and senior practitioners to deliver high quality, personalised support to individuals at different stages of their recovery journey.

Key responsibilities include
• Managing a caseload of approximately 30 to 40 patients with varying needs
• Delivering one to one psychosocial support and structured group sessions
• Facilitating groups on overdose awareness, harm reduction and related topics
• Completing comprehensive assessments and contributing to care planning
• Providing advice and information on substance misuse, alcohol, smoking cessation, blood borne viruses and safe sex
• Preparing patients for release and transfer through effective release planning and throughcare
• Delivering trauma informed, strengths based and recovery oriented interventions
• Seeking out, listening to and acting on patient feedback to ensure personalised care
• Maintaining accurate records, case notes and reports
• Supporting administrative and office based functions including record keeping and appointment coordination
• Working collaboratively with internal teams and external partner agencies
• Operating in line with prison security procedures, safeguarding and organisational policies

Requirements

To be considered, you must have
• Previous experience in a support worker or similar role
• Experience working with substance misuse, mental health, trauma or complex needs
• Ability to manage a busy caseload and deliver both group and one to one interventions
• Strong communication and engagement skills
• A trauma informed and recovery focused approach
• Confidence working within secure or high control environments
• Strong IT skills for case management, reporting and professional communication
• Eligibility to pass Counter Terrorism Check vetting
• Proof of UK residency for the last 3 years due to CTC requirements
