School Attendance Officer – Blackburn (Temporary)
Role Overview
Rotherwood Education are currently recruiting for a School Attendance Officer for a local secondary school based in Blackburn. The School Attendance Officer plays a key role in promoting and improving pupil attendance at a local secondary school. This involves working closely with pupils, families, and staff to follow attendance procedures and ensure every child has the best chance to thrive.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and record daily pupil attendance and punctuality.
- Follow up on absences via phone, text, and home-school communications.
- Produce daily, weekly, and termly attendance reports for senior leaders.
- Identify patterns of concern and support early intervention strategies.
- Liaise with external agencies to support families when needed.
- Maintain accurate records using SIMS or other school systems.
- Support statutory returns such as census data.
- Assist with admissions, leavers, and pupil transitions.
- Ensure safeguarding procedures are consistently followed.
- Provide general administrative support to the school office as required.
Requirements
- Previous attendance or pastoral experience in a school setting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Confident using Microsoft Office and SIMS or other school systems.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Calm, professional, and supportive approach with families.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil welfare.
- Ability to work flexibly and adapt to changing priorities.
