Description
Location: Hybrid – predominantly home-based, occasional travel to Head Office
Salary: £30,000 – £32,000 per annum (dependent on experience)
Hours: 40 hours per week, flexible start/finish times
Contract: Fixed Term – Minimum 12 Months
The Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a proactive and detail-driven Payroll Co-Ordinator to join a well-established and supportive payroll team on a minimum 12-month fixed-term contract. This role is primarily home-based with occasional travel to the Head Office, offering flexibility while maintaining collaboration with colleagues.
You will work closely with the Payroll Manager and wider finance team to ensure accurate, timely payroll processing across the organisation, maintaining compliance, efficiency, and high-quality service.

Key Responsibilities

Collect and review time and attendance data from rota systems, ensuring accuracy

Amend rota data in line with authorised management instruction
-
Maintain employee pay rates for new starters, leavers, contract changes, NMW updates, and pay reviews
-
Process new starters, leavers, and contract changes in line with company policy and legislation
-
Generate contracts and amendment letters through HR systems
-
Ensure all payroll data is authorised and processed within agreed SLAs
-
Process statutory documentation and payments (AEOs, tax notices, student loans, SMP, SPP, SAP, ShPP)

Manage sickness absence processing, including SSP calculations and verification
-
Calculate and process final payments, holiday accruals, loans, and deductions
-
Respond to payroll queries promptly

Process out-of-cycle/manual payments when required

Liaise with HMRC, pension providers, courts, and other third parties
-
Carry out payroll controls and reconciliations to ensure accuracy

Assist with payroll calculations, one-off payments, and continuous improvement activity

Maintain legislative knowledge and complete mandatory training

Provide support and cover for colleagues during periods of absence

Process expenses in line with company policy
Essential Requirements

Minimum 2 years’ experience processing end-to-end payroll for 1,600+ employees
-
Excellent attention to detail with the ability to meet deadlines

Strong communication skills, both virtual and face-to-face

Positive, proactive, hands-on approach

Strong organisational and time-management skills

Ability to engage effectively with internal stakeholders

Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word

Flexible, approachable, sociable team player

Commitment to accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance
Desirable

Experience with Access Select HR and Select Pay

Familiarity with rota systems such as CareSys, PeoplePlanner, or Care Cloud

Understanding of LMS/E-Learning systems
