Deputy Manager – Children’s Residential Service

Location: Leyland
Salary: £35,000
Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week (shift pattern including days, evenings, nights, weekends, bank holidays, sleep-ins and lone working)
Contract: Permanent

Essential Requirements

  • Experience of working with young people aged 11–18 in a residential social care setting

  • Previous supervisory experience

  • Strong knowledge of child safeguarding policies, child development and childcare legislation

  • Understanding of group living and strategies for managing challenging behaviour (including de-escalation)

  • At least Level 3 qualification in Children’s Social Care / Youth Work (or equivalent) and willingness to undertake further training

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to produce accurate written reports and records

  • Strong decision-making skills, able to act as a consistent role model for staff and young people

  • Full UK driving licence (preferably with no endorsements)

The Role

As Deputy Manager, you will support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day operation of a children’s residential home, ensuring the highest standards of care and positive outcomes for young people. Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with staff management, recruitment, induction, training, performance, and shift allocation

  • Supporting young people with their physical, emotional and developmental needs in a safe, homely environment

  • Leading on care planning, risk assessments and safeguarding responsibilities

  • Supporting with budgets, financial procedures and administrative duties

  • Deputising in the absence of the Registered Manager and contributing to the on-call rota

  • Promoting professional development of staff through supervision, training, coaching and auditing

  • Building positive relationships with young people, families, schools, agencies and the wider community
