Our client based in Shipley is looking to recruit a Quantity Surveyor on a full time, permanent basis.

Duties will include:

Tender Process

  • Give information regarding subcontract work package costs on previous similar projects to include in the tender when requested.

Risk Assessment

  • Identify hazards and where necessary carry out a risk assessment.
  • Report any concerns or hazards to your manager.

Emergency Preparedness

  • Make sure an Emergency Plan to determine action in case of specified emergencies must be designed, written down, put in place and tested.
  • Make sure you or anyone under your supervision know the procedures and follow any Instructions.

Contract Process Initial Phase

  • Attend pre-start meeting give advice and comment on work packages specified for the project.


  • People who are responsible for trainees should ensure that they are fully aware of the procedures and that they follow them.
  • Identify any training requirements that may be required for people under your control or your department.
  • Ensure that procedures are followed, and that regular review of the procedures is carried


Contract Process Construction Phase

  • Register each new site with the company’s insurance provider.
  • Establish the requirements of each work package and agree a schedule of attendance required for the project.
  • Ensure only good quality responsible subcontractors are used (approved data base) and help to maintain an approved subcontract data base.
  • Complete “Safe Working Method” section on the Health & Safety Review Sheet up to point A1 and pre-start section of feedback page.
  • Ensure that suitable mechanical offloading of materials and equipment is included within the site-specific method statements and risk assessments.
  • Have delivery times or any restrictions in vehicle size been identified to the subcontract company?
  • Place an order with the selected Subcontractors.


Quantity Surveyors (continued)

  • Where a sub-contractor is required quicker than the normal 10 days to approve, follow the accelerated subcontractor procurement process. The following information may be part of your considerations in the process.
  • Pass review sheet to admin so that site specific method and risk assessments can be obtained for review by the contracts manager and site manager.
  • If a work package is revised ensure that all new information is distributed.
  • On completion of the work complete the feedback page ready for the post contract review meeting.


Plant and Equipment

  • The following may be part of your initial assessment in “have you got enough information to place an order”.
  • Ensure that subcontractor’s carryout – and keep a record of testing and calibration of equipment and keep within Health and Safety file.
  • Request from the subcontractor that any hired equipment is delivered with all user instructions, records of testing/compliance or insurance details where applicable.



  • Ensure that any equipment provided for you, is used correctly. Report any defects to your manager.

Site Visits

  • During site visits wear the correct PPE and report immediately to the site office for an induction.
  • Personally speak to people you consider to be working unsafely and not wearing the correct PPE.
  • Confirm you concerns to the Site Manager.


Completion Phase

  • Attend post contract meetings. Suggest improvements which could be made on similar projects.
