Description

Our client based in Ilkley is looking to recruit an Assembly Fabricator/Welder on a full time, temporary to permanent basis.

Role and Responsibilities

  • To determine the parts required for the assembly operation i.e., Op 10 or Op 20
  • To perform general inspection of the parts picked, to ensure they are the correct to the bill of materials and in good condition.
  • To ensure parts are prepared as per instruction on the works orders and drawings for welding/assembly.
  • To set welding equipment to the correct parameters, this includes amps, volts, wire speed and gas.
  • To assess and inspect welding to the correct sizes, leg lengths are even, and it meets the drawing.
  • To carry out MIG and basic TIG.
  • To operate the rolling and swaging machinery as required (upon successful completion of training)
  • To use hand tools to polish the steel grain back into the parts as per instruction on the works orders and fabrication operation.
  • To use different cutting methods, gas, plasma and cutting discs.
  • To assembly basic items required following the instructions on the engineering drawing, ranging from building machine sections to small components.
  • To assembly basic pipe work, this includes pneumatic pipework and general pipework.
  • To quality check completed assembly to ensure dimensional tolerances are satisfied.
  • To identify the assemblies via tagging or marking up and store in the appropriate location as per management instruction.
  • Adhering to safety critical welding parameters and process.
  • To ensure work performed meets the production timescales.
  • To safely move parts, ensuring the appropriate lifting tools and operating the overhead crane.
  • To adhere to the company safe systems of work and appropriate standard operating processes.
  • To flexibly undertake any other duties similar with this level of post, according to the needs of the business.

 

Qualifications, Knowledge, and Experience Requirements

 

  • Plate Welder Apprenticeship Level 3, Level 3 NVQ Diploma Fabrication and Welding Engineering or equivalent.
  • Coded welder ISO standard 9606 (desirable).
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience working as a fabricator (including apprenticeship).
  • Able to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Ability to use hand tools (such as grinders, drills, die grinder, hexsert gun, monobolt gun, hand drill, mag-drill, air tools, stud gun) (training will be given required).
  • Experience moving and turning large fabrications (desirable).
  • Understanding of H&S policy, procedures and working safely.
  • Understanding of quality.
  • Understanding of welding symbols and processes.
  • Exposure to working with job cards (desirable).

 

Hours of work : Early shift Monday – Friday 6am until 2.15pm

37.5 hours with a 15-minute morning break and 30-minute lunch break at fixed times.

 

Rate of pay - £13 to £16 per hour + shift allowance.
